The short answer

If you need a working queue today, evaluate Mergify. MergeRamp is being built for teams that want a focused serial queue using GitHub’s auto-merge button. It is not available to install yet.

Choose for the work you need done.

Mergify offers a merge queue with serial and parallel scheduling, batching, and scopes for monorepos. Those are useful capabilities to evaluate when a single line of PRs cannot keep up. See Mergify’s queue documentation.

MergeRamp’s planned scope is smaller: one active PR per base branch, a required gate, and GitHub doing the merging. It does not include batching or parallel lanes. The aim is to make that workflow easy to understand and price.

This comparison is written by the MergeRamp team using Mergify’s public documentation. It is not a hands-on benchmark, and intended MergeRamp behavior is not a proven production capability.

Compare the monthly bill.

As checked on 21 October 2026, Mergify lists Max at $21 per seat per month and a free tier for private teams up to 5. MergeRamp’s published plan uses committer bands, starting free up to 5. Verify Mergify’s current price.

These examples assume the same number of billable people in each service. The definitions differ: Mergify counts contributors who open or push to PRs in its rolling activity window; MergeRamp’s published model counts active committers on installed private repositories over 30 days. Check Mergify’s billing rules and our pricing details against your actual organization.

A lower subscription price is useful only if the tool meets your needs. Include CI consumption, setup work, support, and the cost of waiting to merge in the evaluation. These are not equivalent feature bundles.

Will a serial queue keep up?

With a ten-minute required CI run, one-at-a-time validation has a rough ceiling of six merges an hour per branch before overhead or failures. A team that regularly needs twenty merges an hour should investigate batching or parallel testing.

Mergify documents those options. MergeRamp’s current design does not offer them. For a smaller team, the serial model may be sufficient, but validate that assumption using your busiest hours rather than your daily average.

Do not assume either product will reduce your CI bill. Record runs per merged PR, queue wait time, and peak runner usage in a representative pilot.

Use the same evaluation checklist.

  1. List the workflow you need. Include ordinary PRs, urgent fixes, held changes, failing checks, and conflicting branches.
  2. Check permissions and CI compatibility. Review the App permissions and test the required checks on the commits the queue actually validates.
  3. Run a realistic pilot. Include multiple ready PRs and the long-running jobs that dominate your merge time. Confirm what happens after a missed event or service interruption.
  4. Price the actual organization. Use each vendor’s billable-user definition and compare monthly and annual terms separately.

Mergify can be evaluated now. Use the MergeRamp demo to explore the intended experience, then wait for a working integration before making a production decision.

Common questions

Is MergeRamp a replacement I can switch to today?

No. Installation is still being built. Keep your current queue until a working integration has passed a pilot on your repositories.

Is Mergify free for a small private team?

Its current pricing page lists a free tier for up to 5 users on private repositories. Check eligibility and the current terms directly with Mergify.

Should every small team choose a serial queue?

No. Team size alone does not determine throughput needs. A few developers with long CI runs or frequent automated PRs can still benefit from parallel validation.
